Grok Imagine is SpaceXSI's tool for making images and video from a text prompt or a photo. The org chart lists it under Grok as Imagine, one of four projects that continued when xAI became SpaceXAI in May 2026, alongside Grok, MACROHARD, and coding. It makes pictures and video, while the Grok chatbot answers questions and MACROHARD runs software on a computer screen.

What is Grok Imagine?
xAI launched Grok Imagine on July 28, 2025, making six-second video clips with sound from a text prompt. It also edits existing images: a user uploads a photo and describes the change. Elon Musk has pointed at longer creative work as well:

Why Grok Imagine Exists
Imagine gives the Grok family a creative tool beside the chatbot and the Grok Bot teammates, and it runs inside the Grok app and on X, where the audience for memes already is. Elon has treated humor as a design goal:

How it Works
Imagine runs on SpaceXSI's own image and video models, trained on the Colossus supercomputers. Grok Imagine 1.0 arrived on February 1, 2026 with better audio. The Grok Imagine 1.5 preview, released to developers through SpaceXSI's application programming interface (API) on June 3, 2026, turns one still image and a description of the motion into a video clip at up to 720p high-definition resolution, and clips can be chained into longer scenes. In August 2026 Elon announced a major upgrade to image editing:

The Economics of Grok Imagine
Imagine comes with Grok's apps and subscriptions, and SpaceXSI also sells its video models to developers through the API.
The State of Grok Imagine Today
The image tools got new safeguards at the turn of 2026, after news reports from late December 2025 showed some users on X prompting Grok to make sexualized edits of photos of real people. X limited image generation on X to paying subscribers on January 9, 2026, while the standalone Grok app kept free access. Ofcom, the United Kingdom's online-safety regulator, opened an investigation into X on January 12, and two days later X blocked Grok on X from editing photos of real people into revealing clothing for all users.
What Comes Next
Elon's August posts point the product toward longer creative work, such as the steampunk movies he says users can make with it.
The Bottom Line
Grok Imagine is the part of Grok that makes pictures and video, and in under a year it went from six-second clips to image-to-video models offered to developers.
