The jokes engineers hid in the products.

Tesla

Tesla's hidden Toybox
Tap the Tesla logo on the center screen and wait, and a hidden Toybox of Easter eggs opens. Elon Musk pointed owners to it on April 4, 2018. One of its oldest jokes, Emissions Testing Mode, plays a fart sound from any seat the driver picks or whenever the turn signal is used.

Coconut sounds and Boombox
On October 6, 2019 Elon Musk promised custom horn and movement sounds, “coconuts being one, of course,” a nod to the coconut-shell hoofbeats in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Tesla shipped them as Boombox, which plays the sounds through the car's outside speaker.

Light Show
Started from the Toybox, Light Show makes the headlights, taillights, windows, and charge port move in time to music, and on Model X the falcon-wing doors join in. Elon Musk shared one on July 27, 2024.

Starman's Roadster
For the first Falcon Heavy launch on February 6, 2018, SpaceX flew Elon Musk's own midnight-cherry Tesla Roadster, with a spacesuited mannequin named Starman in the driver's seat. The car was packed with jokes:
  • David Bowie's “Space Oddity” was set to play on the sound system, as Elon Musk promised on December 1, 2017.
  • A “Don't Panic” sign and a towel nod to Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and a copy of the book rode in the glove box.
  • “Made on Earth by humans” is printed on one of the car's circuit boards.
  • A Hot Wheels model of the Roadster, with its own tiny Starman, is mounted on the dashboard.
  • A quartz disc from the Arch Mission Foundation stores Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy (Mashable).
  • A plaque under the car carries the names of the SpaceX employees who worked on the mission.

A wheel of cheese on the first Dragon
The first Dragon capsule to orbit Earth and come back, on December 8, 2010, carried a secret payload: a wheel of cheese, a nod to Monty Python's Cheese Shop sketch. Elon Musk recalled it on April 1, 2021.
