Who was the first trillionaire?

The SpaceX listing made Elon Musk the first person worth $1 trillion, and he crossed the line a second time in October 2026.

Elon Musk became the first trillionaire on June 12, 2026, the day SpaceX began trading on the Nasdaq, when Forbes counted his fortune above $1 trillion. Market moves took him under the mark that summer, and he crossed it again on October 5, 2026.

How the SpaceX listing did it

SpaceX priced its initial public offering (IPO) at $135 a share on June 11, 2026, and the shares began trading on the Nasdaq the next day under the ticker SPCX. That turned Elon Musk's SpaceX stake into a public market value, and Forbes counted him above $1 trillion the same day, the first person ever to reach the mark.

What trillionaire means here

Trillionaire here means an estimated net worth of at least $1 trillion on the two most cited trackers, the Forbes real-time list and the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Both value his stakes in SpaceX and Tesla at market prices, and those stakes make up more than 98% of the total.

How he crossed the line again

Summer moves in SpaceX and Tesla shares took him below $1 trillion for about 3 months on the Bloomberg index. On October 5, 2026, a one-day gain of about $65 billion, driven by a jump in SpaceX shares, put him back above it.

The bottom line

Forbes put Elon Musk at about $1 trillion in October 2026. The Net Worth Tracker carries the live, dated figure and the math behind each stake.
