Why this site exists
Elon Musk runs or founded more companies than most people can keep straight, and the coverage of each one tends to assume you already know the other five. I started Elon, Explained so that a reader who has never opened a Tesla shareholder letter can find out what a product is, what it costs, where it stands, and what the company has said about it, in about 5 minutes.
The site covers Tesla, SpaceX (including Starlink and its artificial intelligence unit, SpaceXSI), Neuralink, The Boring Company, Elon's government work, the Musk Foundation, and the ideas that tie them together. It runs no ads.
How facts are sourced
Every figure starts with the primary source when one exists. That means company filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), shareholder letters and earnings calls, regulatory records from agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), court documents, and the companies' own announcements. When I quote Elon or a company account on X, I embed the original post after checking its ID against X's own record, so you can read it in full.
- Reporting from established outlets fills the gaps that filings leave, and the page names the outlet.
- Neuralink participant counts and trial sites come from Neura Pod, which tracks each case.
- Every data chart carries a source line under it.
- Elon's net worth is quoted from Forbes' real-time list on the Net Worth Tracker, with the date it was read.
When two sources disagree, the page says so and gives both figures.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, report it through the feedback button on any page or by message on X. I read every note. When a fix changes a fact, the page's "last updated" date changes with it. When a correction changes what a claim means, the page also carries a short note that says what was wrong and the date it was fixed.
Independence
This independent site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by Elon Musk, Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, The Boring Company, or X. Company names and logos belong to their owners, and the site uses them only to identify the companies it writes about.
Disclosures
- Author may own Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and/ or Boring Company stock and/ or options.
- The "Buy a Tesla" cards use a personal Tesla referral link, and the author earns Tesla credits when someone orders through it.
- Nothing on this site is investment advice. It is written for education.
Contact
The fastest way to get in touch is the Beta feedback button in the bottom-left corner of every page, which comes straight to me. You can leave an email address there if you would like a reply. The site is also on X at @Elon_Explained.
